An English Creamware Plate for the Husk Service of Catherine II the Great Wedgwood, circa 1770 9-3/4 inches (24.8 cm) PROVENANCE: Uppsala Auktions Kammare, Sweden, November 30, 2010, lot 883; John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington; The Kathleen Durdin Collection of Russian Decorative Arts, Tampa, Florida. There were two important Wedgwood commissions from Russia, the first being the "Husk" service in 1769. The decoration of this service was done at the Chelsea studio under the supervision and direction of David Rhodes. Unusually, the names of the painters of this service are known: Ralph Unwin, Jospeh Cooper, and James Bakewell.
