Franz A. Bischoff (1864–1929) was an Austrian-born American artist celebrated for his china painting and later for his vibrant California landscapes. Educated in applied design and ceramic decoration in Europe, he gained prominence in the United States through his porcelain work before settling in Pasadena, California, in 1906. A founding member of the California Art Club, Bischoff’s later paintings of coastal and mountainous landscapes are renowned for their expressive use of color and composition, leaving a lasting impact on California’s art scene.
