Lot Details
Kubo Shunman (Japanese, 1757-1820) Courtesan and Attendants, circa 1795 Surimono woodblock print with silver and gold mica 7-7/8 x 4-1/4 inches (20.0 x 10.8 cm) (sheet, vertical koban) Signed in the red ink seal: Shunman With a poem by Hakuratei Ufu. Property from the Nelkin Collection HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
Print presents well with intricate gaufrage and mica details. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Mild toning throughout the sheet. Mild accretions primarily evident in upper and lower corners, consistent with handling. A small (1/4" x 1/4") series of wormholes along upper extreme edge, partially masked by hinging verso, and an extremely small (1/16" x 1/8") wormhole along extreme lower left edge; not further biological degradation observed, do not appear to impact calligraphy or central image. Mild handling dents with some light creasing throughout the sheet. Vestiges of adhesive/previous mounting along verso edges with some minor skinning in some areas. Unframed.
