Isak Dinesen (Karen Blixen) (Danish, 1885-1962) The Life and Destiny of Isak Dinesen, 1970 Large octavo 10-1/2 x 8-1/2 x 1 inches (26.7 x 21.6 x 2.5 cm) Edited by Frans Lasson, text by Clara Svendsen. Random House, New York. With additional tipped-in and laid-in photographs. Annotated by Thomas Dinesen and others. PROVENANCE: Peter Beard; Gifted to Audra Allen. Photographs include a triptych comprising Karen's profile, and two Africans with similar profiles and a photograph of Blixen's grave. Personal notes and drawings by Peter Beard, signed and inscribed to Peter by Thomas Dinesen, Clara Svendsen (Karen's Secretary of many years who wrote the book) signed March 31, 1974. Together with Daguerreotypes and Other Essays by Isak Dinesen, The University of Chicago Press, 1979. Annotated with drawings by Peter Beard, a handprint of Elui Nyenge (hunted with Bror Blixen in Tsavo), a moth, marginalia and a cigarette pack. A portion of the proceeds from this Auction will be donated to Aprile's Memorial French Bulldogs Special Needs Support Services. Aprile's Memorial French Bulldogs Special Needs Support Services, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and the New York Not-for-Profit Corporation Law. EIN: 99-1580540 This charity is devoted to the prevention of Special Needs and Handicapped Dogs, with a special focus on French Bulldogs from being abandoned, surrendered to shelters and rescues and from being euthanized because of their vulnerabilities. Through the charity's Stop And Think Educational Outreach Program and its Support Services Program they are improving upon the quality of life of dogs with special needs, providing support to the people who care for them and saving them from being euthanized. Aprile's Memorial French Bulldogs Special Needs Support Services is named after Audra Allen's sister, Aprile, who passed away unexpectedly.
