Lot Details
Ceramics . White sherd with color engobe painting and scratch decor, inside glazed. Number, inscriptions "Edition Picasso"aund "Madoura" as well as the embossing stamps "Madoura Plein Feu" and "Edition Picasso" on the underside. From an edition of 200 copies. 20 x 25 x 12 cm.
Number of copies differing from the information in the Alain Ramié's catalogue raisonne, which mentions 150 copies. [AR].

• Exceptionally beautiful, almost symmetrical ceramic.
• Picasso may have been a late starter when it came to learning the techniques involved, but from 1946/47 onwards, he created an extensive and highly diverse group of works in Vallauris in the south of France.
• Time and again, these works reveal the great inventiveness of what is arguably the most famous artist of the 20th.
LITERATURE: Alain Ramié, Picasso. Catalogue of the edited ceramic works 1947-1974, Vallauris 1988, no. 245 (illustrated in color, different copy).
Kunstverein Düsseldorf. Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired from the above)
Good overall impression. Yellow discoloration and minor rubbing around the rims of the two openings and on the handle, overall slightly dirty. Inside a little dusty. There are surface irregularities in the material due to the manufacturing process, and the base is slightly irregular.
