Lot Details
Egg- Oil -tempera on canvas. Signed and dated on the folded canvas and with three direction arrows on the stretcher. 160 x 130 cm. . [AW].

• A subtly nuanced painting full of characteristic presence.
• The non-color white in all its shades and degrees of expression is the protagonist of this gently modeled composition.
• The radical nature of Girke's artistic practice is based on the renunciation of any motif and the consistent development of his painting as a visual experience.
• In 2024, works by Girkes are on display in the exhibition "Nicht viel zu sehen - Wege der Abstraktion 1920 bis heute (Not Much to See - Paths of Abstraction from 1920 to the Present)" at the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, and he was honored with a major retrospective exhibition at the MKM Museum Kuppersmühle in Duisburg in 2022.
Galerie de Gestlo, Hamburg (with the gallery label and the gallery stamp on the stretcher). Galerie Friedrich Müller, Frankfurt am Main (with the gallery label on the stretcher). Private collection, Hesse (acquired from the above in 1989, family-owned ever since)
In good condition. Overall with traces of craquelure. Slightly rubbed in places of the corners and the edges of the image. With isolated tiny brownish spots and tiny color losses. Craquelure in the left quarter of the image, probably caused by pressure on the verso, retouched in fine lines, and two small retouche spots in the center of the edge. The condition report was compiled in daylight, using an ultraviolet light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
