Brush and India ink drawing in red and black. Lower right signed and dated. Inscribed "G.M 5/12" on the reverse. On firm, slightly structured Arches wove paper (with watermark and blindstamp Wasserzeichen und Trockenstempel). 56.5 x 77.5 cm. , size of sheet. [AW].
- A beautiful example of how Mathieu incorporates chance as a stylistic device through the speed of the painting process. - The artist is concerned with an immediate, emotionally controlled and intuitive act of painting. - His gestural painting style was influenced by Hans Hartung and Wols, but also by Eastern calligraphy. - Georges Mathieu is the main representative of French Tachism.

In good condition. Minimally unevenly discolored, center part of teh sheet and in places of the edges a bit more obvious. Edges minimally rubbed in places and with isolated pressure marks.
