- Homage to the icons of art history: Warhol takes up motifs from the Old Masters and gives them a new pop-cultural presence through bright color contrasts and serial transformations. - Warhol uses the painting “Saint Apollonia” from the workshop of Piero della Francesca, now in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., as a template for this motif. - As proof of her martyrdom, she presents a broken tooth with pliers. - Most recently, the master of pop art was honored in the exhibition “Andy Warhol & Keith Haring. Party of Life” at the Museum Brandhorst in Munich.
