- In his unique pictorial language, Baumeister created compositions that conjure up primeval associations. - As artist and art teacher, Willi Baumeister was one of the most outstanding personalities of modernism in Germany. - In 1947, Baumeister published his book “The Unknown in Art” - a plea for modern abstract art.
We are grateful to Ms. Hadwig Goetz for her kind support in cataloging this lot. The drawing will be included in the digital addendum to the catalogue raisonné of drawings, gouaches and collages under the number 2181A.
Private collection Hesse (since 1976, art dealer Dr. Ewald Rathke, Frankfurt a. Main)
Vibrant and well-preserved image. There is a small brown spot at the bottom right margin of the sheet. There are two tiny losses of image in the upper margin, and with a perforated edge. Mentioned flaws do not impair the overall impression in any way.
