Oil on canvas. Handwritten inscription “Grete Weisgerber” on the reverse of the canvas, with an illegible stamp, and handwritten date and title on a label on the stretcher. 78.5 x 122 cm. . [AW].
- Between Impressionism and Expressionism, Weisgerber is an important and deservedly rediscovered figure in Modern Art. - As early as 1906, the Neue Pinakothek in Munich and the Städtische Galerie in Frankfurt am Main purchased his works. - In 1912, he had exhibitions at Paul Cassirer in Berlin, the Kunsthaus Zurich, and the Sonderbundausstellung in Cologne. - In 1913, Weisgerber was a founding member and president of the “Neue Münchner Secession” (New Munich Secession), which also included Alexej von Jawlensky, Paul Klee, and Alexander Kanoldt. - The atmospheric nude was exhibited at the XIII Biennale in Venice in 1922.

In good condition. With craquelure in the impasto areas, more prevalent on the right-hand side of the painting. A few small retouched spots. The canvas has been pieced together by the artist, which is visible on both front and back. The condition report was compiled in daylight and with the help of a UV light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
