• The artist’s most significant prints were created during his intensive creative years between 1918 and 1920, and his first woodcuts in 1918.
• Feininger taught himself the technique of woodcut and is today considered one of the masters of this craft.
• In the year the work was created, Feininger met Walter Gropius; a year later, he was appointed to a teaching position at the Weimar Bauhaus.
