Aristide Maillol (French, 1861-1944) Young seated woman (Baigneuse Renoir), circa 1906 Varnished plaster 9-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches (24.1 x 8.9 x 14.6 cm) PROVENANCE: Sloane Street Auctions, London, March 1, 2013, lot 180; Acquired by the present owner from the above. The authenticity of the present work has been confirmed on the basis of photographs by Olivier Lorquin. According to Mr. Lorquin, this is a foundry plaster cast coated with shellac in preparation for casting. The lines on the cast indicate that it was used to create several bronzes. Dust in recesses. Small losses to varnish along figure's arms. Areas of wear in varnish, particularly on figure's stomach. Residue of sticker and pinpoint of white on underside of sculpture.
