Lined canvas. Minor frame abrasion at left edge. Stretcher bar mark at right edge, most apparent under raking light. Yellowing to the varnish layer. Finely patterned craquelure throughout. Not examined out of frame.
Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly, somewhat obscuring the picture surface. Some brushy retouching at left edge. Some apparent strengthening applied to edges of foliage in the background and possibly also to the cow's proper right eye.
