Rolla Sims Taylor (American, 1872-1970) San Geromine, 1934 Oil on canvas 20 x 24 inches (50.8 x 61.0 cm) Signed, dated, and titled lower right: Rolla Taylor / San Geromine 1934 PROVENANCE: Private collection, New Orleans, Louisiana. Rolla Sims Taylor was born in Galveston, Texas. He began painting in 1890 and moved to San Antonio the following year. He studied with Robert Onderdonk and José Arpa, and was later influenced by Julian Onderdonk. In addition to receiving a law degree from the Cuero Institute, Cuero, Texas, Taylor was a charter member of the Coppini Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the Texas Fine Arts Association.
