Essay
A Large Colima Coatimundi West Mexico, c. 250 BC - 250 AD Identified as a coati (or coatimundi) by its pointed snout, beady eyes, and erect ears. Hollow earthenware with a burnished red-brown slip. The male is posed squatting on its very long back legs tucked under a large wide body, the tail is the spout of the vessel. He holds a piece of vegetable or fruit to its mouth with its right hand while its left is raised to the nape of his neck in a gesture of satisfaction. In good condition, both ears broken and reattached, right hand holding food reattached, a stress crack at the joint of right leg and body, a small gouge and dent near its right shoulder. A lot of white mineral deposits all over from the conditions of being in a burial context over millennia. Length: 14 ½ inches HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
