Blick über den viel befahrenen Canal Grande auf die sonnenbeschienene Punta della Dogana und die berühmte Basilika mit ihren großen Kuppeln, vor der am Ufer zahlreiche Figuren flanieren. Im Vordergrund des Gemäldes ein schmaler Uferstreifen mit einem eleganten Paar und einem linksseitig im Schatten ankernden Boot, dessen hohes Segel halbmondartig ins Bild ragt; dieses kleine Motiv lässt sich öfters auf Gemälden des genannten Künstlers finden.
