Artist's studio; Acquired by the present owner from above.
Leonardo Drew (b. 1961) Untitled, 1995 Wood, rust, textile 100-1/2 x 214 inches (255.3 x 543.6 cm) Property from the Collection of Lana & Richard Cooper, Winnetka, Illinois PROVENANCE: Artist's studio; Acquired by the present owner from above. Leonardo Drew is an American contemporary artist known for his large-scale sculptural installations that critique social injustices and the cyclical nature of existence. Untitled (1995) is a great example of his historic rust works, which are featured in major public and private collections. These pieces, weathered and distressed by the artist, evoke an organic aesthetic that emphasizes decay, transformation, and the passage of time. Drew's non-figurative grids transform raw materials, such as wood, metal, and textiles, imbuing them with powerful emotional depth and inviting viewers to reflect on cycles of creation and destruction. Through his labor-intensive process, Drew challenges traditional ideas of beauty, pushing the boundaries of texture and form to reveal a dynamic narrative within each piece.
