Lot Details
Mixed media on canvas.80 x 99.5 cm.
- A homage to the celebrity restaurant "Ciao Ciao" on Lehniner Platz, Berlin, which closed in 2007. - With his expressive realistic painting, Hödicke is among the most influential renovators of the Berlin art scene in the post-war era. - In 2020 the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, and the Palais Populaire, Berlin, showed grand retrospectives of his creation.
Accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist.
Karl Heinz Hödicke, born in Nuremberg in 1938, studied in Berlin from 1959, where would stay for most of his life until today. Together with Markus Lüpertz and Bernd Koberling, he founded the gallery "Großgörschen 35" in 1964. 10 years later he was appointed professor at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin. He played a pioneering role in the brilliant development of figurative painting in Germany. Berlin, the city he lives in, provides K.H.Hödicke with ever new relevant motifs. The artist wants to create the world the way you see it with your own eyes, just as is the case in the present "Ciao Ciao", an extremely popular, traditional Italian restaurant near Kurfürstenplatz for many decades. [EH]
In good condition. Lower part with isolated tiny brownish spots, presumably from the making. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of an ultraviolet light and to the best of knowledge.
