Description

View of the main building of the Villa Ludovisi gardens near the Porta Pinciana, now known as the Casino dell’Aurora. A man has taken a seat in the shadow of the colossal head of Juno Ludovisi, described enthusiastically by Goethe as his “first love in Rome”, and is recording what he has seen on the pages of his sketchbook while his fellow traveller looks over his shoulder. – The outer margins slightly browned by light. A barely noticeable diagonal crease. The lower left corner with a few tiny tears. Verso with narrow mounting strips all round. In fine condition.
