Holmes / 1941 Bears inscription on the reverse: "Fall" / Near Mineral Wells, Texas / painted about 1941 / by Dwight C. Holmes PROVENANCE: Private collection, Arlington, Texas. Trained as a sculptor, painter, and printmaker, Dwight C. Holmes was an important early Texas artist known for his Southwestern landscapes, still life's, and architectural paintings. He studied at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he also became an instructor. Famous in Fort Worth for his architectural moldings which decorate several historic buildings, Holmes was also commissioned to paint large murals for Texas patrons.
