Lot Details
Pencil drawing.
Not in Grohmann. On brownish paper, lower edge with perforation. 18.8 x 14.7 cm. , almost the full sheet.
Verso with pencil study of a female head in profile.
Accompanied by certificate of authenticity issued by Tut Schlemmer, no date.
Artist's estate. Collection of Dr. Volker Kahmen, Neuss. Private collection Southern Germany
The occupation with people and space, which dominates Schlemmer's œuvre , becomes obvious in this pencil drawing. Sketched figures are staggered in different motions and postures, forming a pyramid-like composition. However, different from the walking figures, such as the "Fünf Männern im Raum", these six seem to pause. The composition is determined by calmness and silent observation. [KH]
In good condition. Slightly discolored. Left and upper edge slightly irregular. Lower edge with small split and discernible trace of rubbing. Drawing on verso minimally pushing through to recto.
